PHILADELPHIA – 2/2/2022 – The Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association (GPHA) partnered with Evolution Energy Partners to host a Hotel Engineering Tour at the Homewood Suites University City. The tour was part of the GPHA Engineering Committee and its goal to provide education and training to hotel engineers in Philadelphia.

“The Homewood Suites University City is excited to share the recent energy conservation measures we implemented at the hotel with GPHA, said Jeff Cafferty, General Manager of the Homewood Suites University City. “Through a partnership with Evolution Energy Partners, we developed a comprehensive energy efficiency project designed to reduce our energy consumption while furthering the hotel’s sustainability goals. We hope this tour provides real-world insight to other local hoteliers in a collective effort to drive energy conservation in Greater Philadelphia.”

The tour included a quick overview of the energy efficiency project’s three energy conservation methods (ECMs); a LED lighting upgrade, occupancy-based guestroom thermostats, and water flow balancing. After the overview, attendees toured the ECMs in action, including upgraded lighting in the back of the house and a tour of a guestroom. The energy efficiency project reduced the hotel’s carbon footprint by more than 561,000 pounds of CO2 annually and will pay for itself via savings in less than three years.

“Evolution Energy Partners is excited to share a recent energy efficiency and sustainability project with GPHA,” said Rob Holdsworth, Vice President of Engineering at Evolution Energy Partners. “Ownership and management of the Homewood Suites University City were quick to recognize the financial and environmental value of a multi-solution energy project that included LED lighting upgrades, occupancy-based guestroom thermostats, and water flow balancing. We want to sincerely thank Homewood Suites for offering this tour and sharing these sustainable initiatives with the greater community.”
